The Georgia Department of Labor and Macon’s WMAZ-TV Channel 13 will sponsor the Macon-Middle Georgia Career Expo and Job Fair on Sunday, May 17. The event will be from 1-5 p.m. at the Macon Centreplex located at 200 Coliseum Dr. and is expected to attract as many as 75 employers.

“We are pleased to partner with WMAZ-TV to bring this opportunity to job seekers and employers in middle Georgia,” said State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond. “The Macon-Middle Georgia Career Expo and Job Fair is an important step in laying the foundation for a return to economic growth and prosperity in our state. I encourage job seekers to attend and take full advantage of the resources that will be available.”

The Macon-Middle Georgia Career Expo and Job Fair will be featured in the labor department’s 15th annual televised job fair, Job Fair 2009, on Georgia Public Broadcasting television. This year the broadcast will be in partnership with WMAZ-TV and WALB-TV Channel 10 in Albany.

The Expo will maximize exposure and ensure awareness of the available services offered through the Georgia Department of Labor. The mission of the GDOL is to work with public and private partners in building a world-class workforce system that contributes to Georgia's economic prosperity. This is accomplished by:

  • Helping individuals attain their work goals and increase self-sufficiency through employment, training, comprehensive rehabilitation, and support services.
  • Helping employers meet their business needs through employee recruitment and selection services, workforce information, and technical support.
